You were born with wings, why prefer to crawl through life? – Rumi

Is this the first time you see the words Second and Self together? If so, you are not alone; but together they actually work magic…

Ironically, when I came up with the term Second Self, I didn’t know that it had already existed with a different meaning. In ancient philosophy, Second Self is seen more as a friend. One of the earliest usages of the term goes back to the Roman statesman, lawyer and scholar, Marcus Tullius Cicero (106-43 BC), who said: “A friend is, as it were, a Second Self.” In modern psychology, Second Self (and in fact Second Selves) is defined as the different personalities that inhabit the human subconscious mind. The underlying personalities we assume for ourselves, can play advantageous or deleterious roles in different circumstances.

For me it had come from my personal and professional background of about 18 years. My definition of Second Self combines both the psychological and philosophical definitions to form a unique concept. I have integrated Second Self with the principals of “Whole Person Coaching” to shape Second Self Coaching which is now my niche. It is an innovative process to reconnect with core and revitalise a limitless mindset. The approach is applicable both at personal and professional levels.

Phoenix is an amazing coach. His coaching was exactly what I needed in terms of helping me uncover the deeper things that were holding me back; after every session, I was always spurred into ACTION! As a life coach, musician, and teacher, it can sometimes feel like I have too many projects going at once. But Phoenix helped me manage my time, figure out how to prioritize, and make real progress in my business and my music by helping me get out of my own head. I highly recommend Phoenix as a coach if you want someone who will hold a peaceful and non-judgmental space for you, be present on a deep level, and help you get you unstuck so you can tap into your full potential.

Initially, it was all but a method… It was pain, struggle, anger, frustration, sleeplessness, bursting in sweat, pounding heartbeats, fear, weakness, uncertainty, mood swing, isolation, and the list goes on. But at the same time, there was deepening, unearthing, persistence, contemplation, reflection, hope, belief, belief, and belief. And there finally was a breakthrough…

Having had no significant clue about life coaching or its relevance, letting myself experiment with Phoenix’s approach was indeed a splendid first exposure. Ever since, I have always looked forward to our weekly sessions with keen enthusiasm. Of the numerous benefits of our coaching/mentoring relationship, the most profound is the clarity it conveys to my thought process, which remarkably helps in organising my objectives, however complex. I have no slightest doubt that the unique style and method Phoenix adopts for the sessions are central to this delightful experience.

The so called Second Self method, was a response that I came up with as a solution to the devastating depression and debilitating anxiety (or the awakening sledgehammer) which I was struck with. It was far from an unpaved road; it was an undiscovered mountain range full of deep valleys and jagged cliffs. It was a long, mysterious, frightening, and painful journey. The experience was freefalling and crushing numerous times before learning how to fly.

Although unique for every individual, the process can be learnt, practiced and mastered under the right supervision. Within a controlled environment, the experience is more like tandem flying which means less pain and fear, but entailing all the advantages when fully mastered. It combines you in your entirety of mind, body and soul together with all internal and external resources and experiences which have either worked for you before or will, in order to shape a new version of yourself. A version that is given birth to and raised by your own adult Self, consciously and purposefully so to rediscover the uniqueness you are born with.

“I know you’re tired but come, this is the way” – Rumi

I ignored the signs until it was too late and I paid a hefty price. Don’t dare waiting for it to come, learn flying and avoid the freefall…
